Postcard #3.6 Sky Observation Lounge

On deck 14 forward lies the Sky Observation Lounge. A large lounge with views to the side and front. We have visited during the day and it is a great place to sit and relax or just watch the waves out of the window. I must try and remember to check it out one evening as it is also one of the ships live music venues.

Postcard #3.5 A couple of views….

Taking a break from the strenuous task of lying in the sun, here are a couple of views from close to where we are camped out today. Another glorious sea day!

Postcard #3.4 Oceanview Cafe

The buffets (Oceanview Cafe) on the 2 Solstice class ships that we have experienced have both been fantastic. They are well laid out, easy to see what’s on offer and the variety and quality is top drawer. I always struggle to make my mind up what to have. There are plenty of seats and you have the option to sit outside if you want which what we always do.

Postcard #3.3 Stateroom Interactive Television

Each cabin/stateroom comes with an Interactive Television. It really is a clever system, from your cabin you can book tables in restaurants, browse your photos, check your onboard account, browse the internet, listen to music and quite a bit more. It even has a large library of music of all genres and the sound quality is rather good too.
Powered by Apple technology and all on a Samsung HD flat screen.

Postcard #3.2 The view from our balcony

Modern ship design often means that there are more balconys. We are on deck 7 and have a more or less un obstructed view out. There is another deck below us with balconys and their view must be awful.

Postcard #3.1 Sunrise

We have just been lying in bed watching the sunrise. If today is anything like yesterday then we are in for another warm sunny day. The temperature reached 64 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday but it felt much warmer.

Postcard #2.7 The Master, Captain Dimitrios Kafetzis

From what we have heard from Captain Dimitrios Kafetzis so far, it would appear that he has a bit of a sense of humour. For instance yesterday at the end of the muster drill he gave a little speech that went along these lines,

In the event of a real emergency, I the Captain will be the only person who can give the order to abandon ship. In the event I am disabled then the First Officer will give the order. If the First Officer is disabled then the Safety Officer will give the order. If he is disabled, then all I can safely say is that you are having a better day than us!

Then at today’s midday address

I am often asked what is the difference between normal miles and nautical miles….well what else would you call them when we are at sea!!

Postcard #2.6 The Hideaway – Deck 7

Just off the atrium on deck 7 (our deck) is little area called The Hideaway which is full of varied, unusual and really comfortable seats. Because there is also a drinks station there it means I don’t have to go far for my morning coffee run. Another little added bonus is that the cups they use are cardboard ones which have lids and they even hold more than the standard cups! The coffee is not too bad either for ships standard blend. Good move Celebrity, it gets the thumbs up from me.

Postcard #2.4 The Lawn & Alcoves

The Solstice class ships are known for having an upper deck with a lawn. The Silhouette has something a little new to this class of ship in the form of the “Alcoves”, you can secure one of this little areas for mere sum of $149 on a sea day and $99 on a port day. Surprisingly they don’t seem to be that popular…….
